TRUSSVILLE — Both Hewitt-Trussville varsity basketball teams will play for tournament championships today.
Hewitt-Trussville’s girls beat Pelham 56-17 in the semifinals of the Bryant Bank Thanksgiving Classic on Monday, led by junior Cayla Dillard, who recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 assists. Senior Elizabeth Brown scored 14 points and sophomore Gabby Hill added 11.
The Lady Huskies (6-1) held Pelham to zero field goals made in the second half. Hewitt-Trussville connected on eight 3-pointers.
Hewitt-Trussville faces Vestavia Hills at 5 p.m. today for the Bryant Bank Thanksgiving Classic championship.
On the boys side, Hewitt-Trussville pulled away from Woodlawn in the second half to win 88-75 in a semifinal game Monday. Senior Jarvis Calhoun led the Huskies with 24 points. Senior forward James Huguley scored 21 points and grabbed five rebounds for Hewitt-Trussville (7-0). Senior Tony Hampton added 11 points.
Hewitt-Trussville faces Bob Jones for the Bryant Bank Thanksgiving Classic championship at 6:30 p.m. at Bryant Bank Arena.
The Pinson Valley boys play Oak Mountain in the tournament’s consolation game at 2 p.m. in the upper gym at Hewitt-Trussville. The Pinson Valley girls play in a consolation game against Pelham at 6:30 p.m. in the upper gym.
