Dear Editor,
I moved to Trussville three years ago and for the last three years Trussville has tried to increase taxes. The first year by a property tax which the voters turned down. Last year the mayor was able to push through an additional 1 % sales tax. Now, this year, they are trying to increase our property taxes again.
I understand kids do not need to be in trailers, but maybe the city and school board should have thought about this before they spent $20 million on a new football stadium, road and bridge. Seems they put football ahead of our children.
If the city and school board would spend wisely, we would not need a new property tax. The one percent sales tax is bringing in $6 million per year. Trussville should keep $3 million and give $3 million to the schools.
I will vote no on the property tax increase and I hope it fails to pass. If it does fail maybe our leaders will sit down and use common sense with the way they spend our tax dollars.
