CLAY — Hasan Abdullah will get to wear the Clay-Chalkville colors at the next level — navy.
The senior point guard on Monday verbally committed to play his college basketball at Navy, choosing the Midshipmen over scholarship offers from Samford, Alabama A&M and Texas-Pan American.
Abdullah took an official visit to Navy last weekend with his parents. He then weighed out the pros and cons.
“It means a lot,” Abdullah said of playing college basketball. “I’ve put in a lot of work and it’s a blessing.”
Abdullah said he may study something in the medical field in hopes of getting into sports medicine after college.
As a junior at Clay-Chalkville last season, Abdullah averaged 14 points, nine assists, six steals and five rebounds per game.
“I am so excited for Hasan and his family,” said first-year Clay-Chalkville head coach Jeremy Monceaux. “The Naval Academy is getting not only a great player but a great young man. Hasan is a model for what kind of player and person we want representing our basketball program at Clay-Chalkville High School, and the sky is the limit for him both on and off the floor.”
