PINSON — The Jefferson County Board of Education last week approved a bid to supply cafeteria equipment at Kermit Johnson Elementary School in Pinson.
Hotel and Restaurant Supply won the bid at a total project cost of $477,240.
The board last month voted to award a bid for the construction of a new cafeteria at the school to Cullman-based Civicon Construction Company for $2,415,542. The projected completion date is Dec. 16.
Jefferson County Schools Public Information Director Nez Calhoun said last year that when 34 classrooms were added to the school a few years ago, enrollment swelled from about 400 students to nearly 800. She said at the time that a new, standalone cafeteria was “a huge need.”
The existing cafeteria, which is connected to the gym, could be used for a large meeting room, choral room or health room.
In other news, the board rejected a bid for painting services at Pinson Valley High School and other non-specified projects due to proposals exceeding the amount budgeted for the project.
The board also approved Vincent Construction to provide new kitchen ventilation systems at various schools for a total bid price of $1,314,885.
