CLAY – A new ordinance may curb improper parking in Clay neighborhoods.
The Clay City Council has voted unanimously to adopt Alabama Code 32-5A-136 as the city’s new parking ordinance. The ordinance will keep people from parking outside a business or residence on a public street.
It is still possible to park on a public street when practical, but there must be plenty of room down the center of the road to allow for traffic and emergency vehicles.
It will be up to the officers’ discretion whether a citation needs to be written on a case-by-case basis. The fine for violating the ordinance will be $50 for the first offense, a second offense will cost $200, and any subsequent offenses will cost $500.
The ordinance was adopted unanimously as Ordinance 2015-17.
