TRUSSVILLE –An Alabama state trooper is in the hospital after being struck by a vehicle on Interstate 59 at a road construction site in Trussville, according to Capt. Jeff Bridges of the Trussville Police Department.
The incident occurred at about 2 a.m. Wednesday morning when a vehice left the road and struck the officer, investigators told Watkins. He was alert when he was transported to UAB hospital. He has since been released and will continue recovery from his home, according to Secretary of Law Enforcement Spencer Collier.
The identity of the trooper has not been released.
Cory Michael Bolton, 27, of Springville was arrested for driving under the influence and is being held in the Trussville city jail.
The stretch of I-59, north and south bound, between Chalkville Road and Edwards Lake Road has been the under construction due to a repaving project since last week. At least three serious accidents with injuries have occurred in the construction area during the project.
