TRUSSVILLE – According to Hewitt-Trussville Athletics Director Karen Johns, six of her student-athletes will be signing college scholarships Thursday afternoon at the school.
Two softball and cross-country athletes are expected to ink along with one baseball and lacrosse player.
From the softball diamond, Maddie Dorsett and Bailey Murphy will mark their names down. Dorsett is expected to choose Mississippi State while Murphy could lock down with South Alabama.
Tyler Tolbert will represent the baseball team at Thursday’s ceremony. The infielder hit for a .316 average with nine stolen bases last year as a junior. He is believed to be a future UAB Blazer.
Marlee Mason and Ben Knox, both of which qualified for the state championship race this Saturday in Oakville, will represent the Huskies’ cross-country team. Both runners have recently verbally committed with UAH. Whether or not they stay true to their pledge will be discovered soon.
Hewitt-Trussville has only fielded a lacrosse team twice, but the rapid growth of the program will take another large step forward at the signing ceremony. LeAnn Guess should mark the third Husky in history to sign an athletics scholarship. Guess is expected to choose UAH.
Alex White and Kally Bradford both signed lacrosse scholarships last season for Hewitt-Trussville. If things go as expected, White and Guess will be re-united at UAH in 2016.
