TRUSSVILLE — The Trussville Police Department hosted a drug drop from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday.
Officers were available outside of City Hall to dispose of any unwanted, unused or expired drugs or medications.
This year officers collected 54 pounds of drugs surrendered by the Trussville community. Captain Jeff Bridges said that although this turn out was lower than last year’s, in light of other events that were happening in Trussville on Saturday, he’s still impressed.
“It was 54 pounds of mostly narcotics,” Bridges said. “It’s always better to turn them in and have them disposed of rather than them landing in the hands of someone who wasn’t prescribed them, or who could abuse them.”
Bridges said all drugs will be taken to the Birmingham Drug Enforcement Agency to be properly disposed of.
“We appreciate everyone coming out,” Bridges said. “It makes the community that much safer, if we can get rid of unneeded narcotics.”
