BIRMINGHAM —On Thursday, around 11:55 a.m., officers responded to the Valley Brook apartments at 2900 block of Gallant Drive on two people shot.
When officers arrived, they observed the victim, identified as 44-year-old Damon McCain of Center Point, being treated by Birmingham Fire and Rescue.
McCain was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the body. There was a second male who suffered a gunshot wound to the ankle. McCain was transported to UAB where he was pronounced deceased by the medical staff.
Detectives learned the victim and several males were sitting outside the apartment when two of the males started arguing and immediately multiple shots were fired. It appeared multiple people were shooting due to the shell castings found at the scene.
No suspects have been arrested at this time, according to Lt. Sean Edwards.
“This incident could have been far worse,” Edwards said. “Unfortunately, when dangerous people hang out with other dangerous people that choose to do dangerous things normally bad things happen.”
