CENTER POINT– Wednesday, October 5 is the 11th annual Center Point Area Chamber of Commerce Charity Golf Tournament. The tournament will be held at the Roebuck Golf Course and benefit the Center Point Ambassador Scholarship Fund and Children’s Miracle Network.
“It’s the biggest fundraiser we have for our Ambassador Scholarship fund,” Tim Gann, Center Point Chamber of Commerce Event Director, said.
Through the Student Ambassador’s Program, the Chamber of Commerce help high school students to serve the community.
“They’re Center Point High School students who volunteer community service hours throughout the year,” Gann said. “And in May, when they start to graduate, we award scholarships.”
A portion of the proceeds will also go to Children’s Miracle Network, a non-profit organization that raises funds for children’s hospitals and medical research. Because the organization is the official charity of the Miss America Pageants, the proceeds will be awarded to Stella Kontos, who was crowned Miss Center Point 2017 in July.
Attending the event will be two former University of Alabama football players Tyler Watts and Roger Shultz. Shultz, a former UA center, was also a contestant on Season 5 of the NBC reality show “The Biggest Loser,” where he came in second place. Former quarterback Watts now owns a Nationwide Insurance and Financial Services Agency in Birmingham.
The event will begin with registration and a luncheon at 11 a.m. and a shotgun start scheduled for noon. Fees for the tournaments are 0 per person or 0 per team. Hole sponsorship is 0 per person or for a team. A drink cart sponsorship is 0.
