TRUSSVILLE –For the first time since 1987, Hewitt-Trussville is 9-0 and only one game remains for a first-ever perfect season.
The Huskies entered Friday nights game looking to remain undefeated. Standing in their way were the Huntsville Panthers. A win for the Huskies would leave them one game away from winning the Class 7A Area 4 title.
The Huskies offense took very little time getting the game started when Connor Adair would find Noah Igbinohene to give Hewitt-Trussville a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter.
Just two minutes later Adair would pick up his second passing TD of the night, a 59-yard strike to Elliot McElwain to make it a 14-0 Huskies lead.
The Panthers would cut into the Huskies lead when William Glover would find Demario Patton in the back of the end zone to make the score 14-6.
After driving down the field to end the first quarter, Hewitt-Trussville would miss a FG. But a second chance was coming. On the first play from scrimmage, the Huskies defense would recover a Huntsville fumble inside the 15-yard line. One play later and Noah Igbinohene found his way to the end zone for his second touchdown of the evening, making the score 21-6.
Midway through the 2nd quarter, Igbinohene would pick up his third touchdown of the night on run up the middle giving Hewitt-Trussville a 28-6 lead. Adair would continue his aerial assault on the Panthers when he would find McElwain again for a touchdown. McElwain’s touchdown would give the Huskies a 35-6 lead late in the 2nd quarter.
Adair wasn’t finished just yet. With 11 seconds remaining in the half, He would connect with Michael Pitts for his fourth passing TD of the night.
Hewitt would lead 42-6 at halftime. Freshman Malachi Moore would cap off the scoring for the Huskies with a long touchdown run late in the 3rd quarter to make it 49-6.
Huntsville made the score look respectable with three touchdowns in the 4th quarter to make the final score Hewitt-Trussville 49, Huntsville 26.
The Huskies will host James Clemens next Friday night with the winner winning the Area title and a number 1 seed in the AHSAA playoffs.
