BIRMINGHAM — An argument inside a Texaco gas station at 421 Oporto-Madrid Blvd in East Lake Friday afternoon between an employee and a customer turned fatal, as the employee ultimately shot the other man.
However, Birmingham police are saying they believe the shooting was “justifiable,” according to an article by AL.com.
A clerk shot Rodney Lee Williams, 35, after Williams brandished a gun, was maced by a different employee and then brandished the same weapon again police say they were told.
“Based on information our investigators have, we believe the shooting will be ruled justifiable,” said police spokesman Sgt. Bryan Shelton in a statement. “The ultimate decision falls to the District Attorney’s office. We have to make better decisions, even knowing when to walk away. Truly unfortunate.”
Police found Williams on the ground outside the convenience store around 2:25 p.m. yesterday. Police said he had multiple gunshot wounds and was holding a gun. He was taken to UAB Hospital where he died.
