CENTER POINT — Authorities with Birmingham Fire and Rescue and the Center Point Fire Department have responded to a fuel spill in Center Point, according to a post on social media by Birmingham Fire.
The spill is located at 1800 Center Point Parkway. The road has been completely shut down for one block, from Polly Reed Road NE to 17th Avenue NW.
“On scene crews reporting several hundred gallons of fuel spilled on ground and into storm drain,” says the post. “Hazmat and Decon crews responding.”
The Jefferson County EMA is also reporting to the scene.
“Jefferson County EMA is responding to assist the Center Point Fire Department and the Birmingham Fire and Rescue,” that department said in a post.
According to authorities at the scene approximately 200-300 gallons of fuel have been spilled, including into the storm drain system. The fire departments on the scene are spraying a foam onto the spill to help suppress the vapors.
Residents in the area have been evacuated from their homes and moved to a warming station at Center Point City Hall.
