TRUSSVILLE — Boy Scout member Glenn Smith, of the Trussville Troop #915, opened the Trussville City Council meeting Tuesday night with the Pledge of Allegiance. Smith holds the Boy Scout rank of Light, the second-highest rank attainable, above Star and below Eagle.

In addition to City Council members, many of the Trussville police officers were present to congratulate a newly-promoted members of their team. Keith Rosetta was promoted on Saturday, Jan. 20, from detective to sergeant. Rosetta was joined by his wife, Stephanie, and daughter, Devon Hawthorne.
Councilor Brian Plant commended Rosetta on his service with the Trussville Police Department (TPD).
“I would like to recognize Sgt. Rosetta and his family,” said Councilor Brian Plant. “I would also like to add that he has been with our department for 11 years. We are fortunate that we’ve had a lot of long-standing officers and firefighters. To me, it indicates, I hope it indicates, that we are treating you well. This is a good place to work, and also the comradery and leadership of the two departments.” He continues to congratulate Rosetta and his family. “We appreciate your service.”
The Council also approved a school proclamation recognizing the City of Trussville’s participation in the National School Counseling Week on Feb. 5-9. Councilor Jef Freeman read the proclamation aloud recognizing our school counselors.
“Whereas, school counselors are employed in public and private schools to help students reach their full potential,” said Freeman. “School counselors are actively committed to helping students explore their abilities, strengths, interests, and talents as these traits relate to career awareness and development.”
“Where school counselors help parents focus on ways to further the educational, personal and social growth of their children; and school counselors work with teachers and other educators to help students explore their potential and set realistic goals for themselves; and school counselors seek to identify and utilize community resources that can enhance and complement comprehensive school counseling programs and help students become productive members of society; and comprehensive developmental school counseling programs are considered an integral part of the educational process that enables all students to achieve success in school.”
In other matters, the Council:
— Approved the minutes from Jan. 9 regular meeting;
— Approved Ordinance 2018-001 ANX, to annex 7434 Dollar Road into Trussville;
— Approved Resolution 2018-002 awarding the bid for the SRO (School Resource Officer) vehicle computers;
— Approved Resolution 2018-003 to participate a Parks & Recreation Grant for the Greenway fields (behind the library) up to $175,000, a 50/50 match should the city be awarded;
— Approved the consent agenda, which included:
-Accounts payable;
-FBI Patrol Rifle Instructor Course for Dunn in April 9-11;
-Transportation Conference for Sullivan Feb. 12-13 for $200 plus lodging and expenses;
-Three library change orders for an electrical revision for $4,646, water line modification
for $1,534, and wall covering changes which is no cost to the city;
-Merit increases for both the fire department and one library employee;
-Education incentive for Steven Robinson, FD, 5% effective Jan. 20;
-Proposal from Frost Systems for the Trussville jail video system replacement for $14,492 (coming out of the correction fund);
-Upgrade a librarian, Karen Davis, from assistant to the Children’s Librarian;
-Police department request to purchase two state bid equipped 2018 police Tahoe’s for $90,330;
-Promotion of Rosetta from the Trussville Police Department from detective to sergeant;
-Purchase of a fire truck;
-The addition of a bid for a demolition of damaged area in the amount of $6,000 for
cleanup;
-The Mayor to enter an agreement with LBYD for civil engineer services to prepare a bid
for $17,000;
-Accept resignation Planning and Zoning board member Terry Oglesby; and
-Council members to participate and attend the May Alabama League of Municipalities
Convention in Montgomery.
