JEFFERSON COUNTY — A calf that was found wandering on a road in Jefferson County has been returned to its owner, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
On Saturday evening, deputies from the sheriff’s office responded to a report of a young cow on Tinmill Road and Jaybird Road. After about half an hour of following it, deputies were able to contain it but could not locate the owner. The calf was found to weigh around 400-pounds and appeared to be in good health.
An animal cruelty investigator was called to assist. Today, the owner of the calf made a call to the Greater Birmingham Humane Society, which contacted the animal cruelty investigator. The investigator learned that the owner found a gate at his property was somehow opened and the calf was missing. He at first assumed that it had been stolen and reported it to the Birmingham Police Department.
The sheriff’s office reported that the calf has been returned and the owner will not face any charges for the escape.
