MACON COUNTY –The school superintendent of Macon County schools, Jacqueline Brooks, announced the closure on social media. According to media reports, the Macon County Sheriff’s Office is working with another government agency that spotted the threat online.
The specific nature of the threat has not been disclosed.
“Good morning, I just got a call from our sheriff who talking to a government official. Some type of credible threat came in over a government online, and they have advised us to close school today,” Brooks posted online. “A SchoolCast Message will be sent to your homes shortly. All schools in Macon county will be close for today. Repeat: all schools in Macon county will be close for today. We do plan for the switchboard at the Macon County Board of Education to be open beginning at 8 AM to answer any questions that you may have. Thank you and please stay tuned to our social media and local news for more information. Only principals and central office/district staff is to report today. Thank you.”
Macon County Sheriff Andre Brunson said law enforcement officials are looking into the threat which was posted to social media, according to WSFA.
Brunson told WSFA that after speaking with the school superintendent, a decision was made to close the schools in order to keep students safe.
