BIRMINGHAM — A man was arrested in Birmingham yesterday for allegedly trafficking drugs, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. Another man at the scene was arrested on outstanding warrants but was later released.
Yesterday, officers from the Sheriff’s Office Warrant Detail arrived at the residence of Chris Holt, Jr., 29, who was wanted for warrants charging him with failure to appear on drug offenses. When they approached the residence, a man was seen jumping out of a nearby van and running away.
One of the men was carrying two backpacks and was later identified as Michael Anthony Watts. He was captured and a search of the backpacks yielded 42 grams of cocaine, marijuana, digital scales and cash. Holt was inside the van where there were two handguns that had been reported stolen.
Watts was charged with trafficking cocaine, unlawful possession of marijuana in the first degree, attempting to elude, and resisting arrest. He is being held at the Jefferson County Jail with a bond of $105,300. Holt was arrested for the warrants and was released by a judge.
According to the sheriff’s office, the case will be reviewed by the ATF to determine possible firearms charges.
