RAGLAND — The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that left a woman dead and a man injured in Ragland.
At 2 a.m. on early Thursday morning, deputies from the Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a shooting at Broken Arrow Drive in Ragland. When they arrived at the scene, they discovered a deceased female and a male with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
The female was identified as Victoria Lyn Deputy, 49. The male was identified as Billy James Deputy, 51.
A man was brought into custody, identified as Bruce E. Bates, Jr., 26, of Riverside.
Bates faces one count of murder with a $75,000 bond and two counts of attempted murder – one for the shooting of Billy Deputy and attempted murder of Billy James Deputy, Jr, who is the son of Victoria and Billy Deputy, with a $60,000 bond on each count. He also faces an obstruction of justice charge with a $15,000 bond.
Billy Deputy is currently being treated at a hospital where he is in stable condition.
“This is an active investigation and additional information will become available at a later time,” the St. Clair Sheriff’s Office said in statement. “The charge of one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder is subject to change as the circumstances of this case unfold.”
