PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – A 17-month-old boy has died after being left in the car by his parents who parked the car and went to work.
According to Fox10, the Pembroke Police said the boy’s parent left him in their car Friday, July 13, morning after parking in a hospital parking lot. Paramedics arrived a little after 5 p.m., eight hours later, and tried to resuscitate the toddler.
Both parents were questioned and released.
According to Kidsandcars.org, who has been collecting data on these incidents since 1998, says an average of 37 children die each year in hot cars, including instances where a child has been forgotten in a car, accidentally locks themselves in a car or trunk, or, in a small number of cases, when a child has been intentionally left in a car.
Since that time, the highest number of deaths per year was in 2010, with 49 deaths. Last year was an unusually deadly year, with 42 record deaths.
