ASHVILLE—Springville defeated Ashville Friday night at Kin Logan Stadium in 33-22 to give the Tigers their first win of 2018.
As the skies opened up for rain in fourth quarter, so did the Tiger offense. Quarterback Austin Hutcheson was handed a 22-19 deficit heading into the final quarter, and he and his offense went to work. Running back Bradlee Cole scores from 2 yards out to give Springville the lead early in the quarter.
The Springville defense, led by Braden Hughes and Bradyn Kyser, were able to shut out Ashville in the entire fourth quarter giving the ball back to their offense with 4:30 left in the game.
After a heavy dose of Cole on the ground, Hutcheson would switch it up with an end-around to the left and score from 36 yards out, giving the Tigers the 33-22 victory.
“We needed this game more and we showed it,” Springville head coach Michael Graben said. “It was a great team effort.”
The game was littered with mistakes from both teams as the two sides combined for over 200 yards in penalties.
Hutcheson ended the game on 18/32 passing with 143 yards and one touchdown.
Hutcheson would add two rushing touchdowns to his total, giving the junior three scores on the night.
Bradlee Cole amounted over a 100 yards on the ground for the Tigers, including a pair of two-yard touchdown runs.
Cole was also a favorite target of Hutcheson through the air, catching a three-yard touchdown pass right before halftime to close the gap for the second half comeback. Brant Brown caught six passes, two in the drive that gave the Tigers the lead early in the fourth quarter.
Springville (1-1) will travel to Sylacauga next Friday night.
