TRUSSVILLE-The Hewitt-Trussville softball team (28-6) wrapped up the regular season with a 2-1 home win over Curry.
Olivia Faggard had one hit, Chaney Peters had one hit and two RBIs.
Sara Phillips went the distance, gave up three hits, one run, struck out 14 batters, and got the win.
The win was head coach Taylor Burt’s 400th career win.
“Sara pitched an incredible game and the bats came alive when we needed them most,” said Burt. “[We] enjoyed honoring our seniors and it was good to get a win against a great Curry team.”
The AUM grad spent four years as the head softball coach at Fort Payne High School and two years at North Jackson before taking the Hewitt job in 2017.
The Sand Rock standout was selected Dekalb County Coach of the Year in 2011 and 2012 and the 2021 National High School Coaches Association Coach of the Year
Hewitt’s senior class has put together a 167-25-2 record, won three area and three region titles, two state championships, and a state runner-up trophy.
