BIRMINGHAM – The Birmingham Police Department reports that Patrol Division officers have made arrests in connection with a firearms investigation. The incident occurred Friday, in the 100 block of 3rd Avenue West.
The first suspect has been identified as Keown Jackson, a 32-year-old black male from of Birmingham. A violation of state firearms act warrant has been obtained against the suspect. The second suspect has been identified as Nicolette Murphy, a 25-year-old white female from Birmingham. A Violation of state firearms act warrant has been obtained against the suspect.
Officers from the North Precinct conducted a traffic stop on the suspect’s vehicle at the incident location after observing the suspect’s vehicle had an expired tag. As the officer approached the vehicle he observed a Draco 7.62 MM rifle and Diamondback 5.56 MM rifle inside the vehicle. The suspects were subsequently taken into custody. Suspect Jackson was found to have an unrelated outstanding traffic warrant. Officers also recovered over 300 rounds of ammunition and a .40 caliber handgun in the vehicle.
Three minor children were inside the vehicle with the suspects. DHR responded to the scene to take custody of the children.
