BIRMINGHAM — The Birmingham Police detectives have made an arrest in a homicide investigation that occurred Saturday, Nov. 17.
Around 1 a.m., Birmingham police officers responded to a report of a person shot on 19th Street and Avenue O in Birmingham. Officers arrived and located the victim, identified as 34-year-old Eric Jackson, in the rear seat of an SUV. Johnson was found unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound.
The Birmingham Fire and Rescue, along with the Jefferson County Coroner, arrived and the victim was pronounced deceased as a result of his gunshot wounds. Officers soon learned that the incident occurred at a gas station located in the 900 block of 20th Street in Ensley.
The suspect in this case has been identified as 16-year-old Corey Beckwood, of Birmingham. A capital murder warrant has been issued against Beckwood. On Wednesday, Nov. 21, he was taken into custody and transported to the Jefferson County jail.
