VESTAVIA HILLS — The apparent inhalation of fumes from a chemical spill at the Birmingham Water Works Treatment plant has led to the hospitalization of 14 people.
Officials are advising individuals to stay away from the scene and that nearby residents should shelter in place, said WVTM.
According to WVTM, an additional 35-40 people have been sent to the hospital as a precaution.
WVTM said those that have inhaled the chemical may experience the following symptoms:
Sneezing
Nose irritation
Burning sensation
Throat irritation
Nausea
Vomiting
Headache
