TRUSSVILLE — Governor Kay Ivey’s proposed gas tax increase appears to be moving through the state legislature with deliberate speed. That may not sit well with The Trussville Tribune readers in Jefferson and St. Clair counties.
In an online poll conducted March 1-2 by The Trussville Tribune, 90 percent of the respondents opposed the gas tax increase while 10 percent supported the measure.
A separate poll conducted at the same time asked respondents if any gas tax increase should be offset by a tax decrease on groceries as suggested by the Alabama Policy Institute. In that poll, 79 percent of respondents said yes to an offsetting tax decrease while 21 percent said no to the idea.
