From The Trussville Tribune staff reports
TRUSSVILLE — The Trussville City Schools system sent out a press release on Monday, June 3, 2019, announcing the return of a retired teacher, who will substitute for the band program at Hewitt-Trussville Middle School.
Kay Carter will begin the 2019-20 school year and remain until the return of Assistant Band Director Corinth Lewis. Lewis is on maternity leave.
A former substitute band teacher at Hewitt-Trussville Middle School was arrested for possession of child porn on Thursday, May 23, 2019. Court documents show Justin Hrin Stegall, 22, of Northport, is facing five charges. His attorneys have requested a preliminary hearing, but that date has not been set.
“It is important for the Trussville community to know that Mr. Stegall is no longer on our substitute teacher list, and he is not and will not ever be employed in Trussville City Schools in any capacity,” Superintendent Pattie Neal said on Friday.
Hewitt-Trussville Middle School Principal Dr. Berry said the school system is pleased to welcome Carter as a substitute teacher.
“Mrs. Carter did an excellent job of teaching choir for many years at HTMS and retired from here in 2017 -2018,” Dr. Berry said. “This past year, she was an outstanding substitute teacher for us in band and all subject areas.”
