MARGARET — A man who worked at North Valley Early Learning Center, in Margaret, was indicted on charges of sex abuse of a child, according to St. Clair County Sheriff Bill Murray.
Austin Greenway, 19, of Odenville, is charged with sexual abuse of a child less than 12 and school employee having sexual contact. The incident was reported in June 2019, after a summer program at the North Valley Early Learning Center and after school program. During the summer months, special events and trips are provided for local children.
Margaret PD asked the sheriff’s office to look into allegations of sexual abuse of a 9-year-old child. According to the sheriff’s office, Greenway had been employed at the church for two years, as a teacher.
A St. Clair County grand jury indicted Greenway after information from an extensive investigation was presented by the sheriff’s office.
Greenway turned himself in on Tuesday, Aug. 20, at 1:48 p.m. He posted a $50,000 bond and was released the same day at 2:31 p.m.
Greenway’s next court date is scheduled for Oct. 2.
North Valley Church has not returned calls concerning the incident.
