TRUSSVILLE — Trussville Mayor Buddy Choat says the Valley Road extension will open on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2019. The extension connects the Pinnacle at Tutwiler Farm Shopping Center to Valley Road.
Improvements were also made in the area of North Chalkville Road and Pineview Drive.
Jefferson County added a new traffic light at the four-way intersection of North Chalkville Road, Green Drive and Pineview Drive. The purpose was to improve traffic in the area after the Valley Road extension is open.
The Valley Road intersection with North Chalkville Road will become a right-in and right-out intersection. Drivers will not be able to make a left turn out of Valley Road onto North Chalkville Road. They will also not be able to make a left onto Valley Road from North Chalkville Road. The county is also doing a study to remove the traffic signal on North Chalkville Road and Norrell Drive, to improve traffic flow.
Drivers wanting to go from Valley Road to North Chalkville Road towards Clay will not be able to take a left turn directly from Valley Road. They will have to use Valley Loop Road to Pineview Road to get to North Chalkville Road. Another option is to turn right from Valley Road then make a left onto Norrell Drive and turn around. Drivers would then go back to North Chalkville and take a right.
The extension runs parallel to Interstate 59. The goal is to take traffic congestion away from Chalkville Road and U.S. Highway 11.
