PELHAM — The Springville High School marching band finished in third place at the Alabama State Marching Championships on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2019, at Pelham High School.
The Tigers placed third in the Class 5A Best Placement Awards behind Ardmore and champion Jasper. Springville finished just behind Ardmore (83) with a score of 82.92. Overall, Jasper swept the Best in Class category, winning in the percussion, guard, music scores, visual scores and general effect score categories.
The Springville High School band is officially named the “Mighty Band from Tiger Land.” The band is made up of 148 members. This season, the Tiger Marching band earned superior ratings and was deemed Best Class band at the Lake Martin Invitational. The band will travel to march in a parade at Disney World this upcoming spring.
The championships were held for all seven high school classifications. Bands in the 1A, 2A, 4A and 7A classifications competed at Hoover, and bands in the 3A, 5A and 6A classifications competed at Pelham High School.
The event was judged by an out-of-state panel.
