LEEDS — The Moody Miracle League is one step closer to replacing its old ball field, after a generous donation from Lehigh Heidelberg.
Lehigh raised $8,000 during Safety Week. Part of the fundraiser included a charity golf tournament. The check was presented during the Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce Luncheon in November. Kim Sebastian, who serves on the Board of Directors for the Moody Miracle League, said 100% of donations go towards the special needs baseball league.
“We don’t turn anyone away, based on any kind of disability,” said Sebastian. “Money raised goes towards players, we are 100% volunteers.”
The Moody Miracle League has members from age 2 to age 69. Every year, participants have the opportunity to play spring or fall ball. Sebastian said they have one challenge and that is the aging of their ball field.
“Our field is old and it does need to be replaced, so we have been consistently trying to raise money to replace it,” Sebastian said. “We are hoping to get enough money to replace it next year.”
The money raised by Lehigh has been earmarked to go towards repairs and replacement of the field. There will also be a 5K race in March to raise money for the cause.
Sebastian is thankful for the people who give back in order to keep the league going.
“We love it! We are 100% for the community and we appreciate everything that the community does for us,” said Sebastian.
Other activities the Moody Miracle League participates in include rock climbing with adaptive rocks, bowling, summer activities, an awards celebration and an annual Christmas party.
A car show in October will raise money to go towards activities for the Moody Miracle League.
