CLAY — When Eddie Dawson opened Wing-A-Fish in Clay, the restaurant was an instant hit. The hot wings, wide selection of fried fish and soul food Sundays drew crowds of diners from the city and surrounding communities.
But rising rent was more than owner Eddie Dawson could overcome.
“We weren’t able to renew our lease for many reasons and mostly due to the unexpected cost from Publix Realtor, which is hard to factor in year to year,” Dawson said in announcing the closing on social media on Monday.
The final day of business will be Dec. 28.
But fans of Wing-A-Fish will still be able to continue to enjoy many of the menu items by way of the Wing-A-Fish food truck, though locations are still being sought.
“We have the food trailer out daily and currently looking to setup within the area,” Dawson said.
Dawson said suggestions for locations could be sent to him on the Wing-A-Fish Facebook page and thanked his customers for the support they provided to the restaurant.
