From The Trussville Tribune staff reports
LEEDS — The Leeds Coosa Mart recently was dinged by the Jefferson County Department of Health this past Tuesday for several maintenance deficiencies.
The convenience store, which is located at 7680 Parkway Dr., saw its food score plummet from a score of 96 in July of 2019 to a score of 69 as of Jan. 7.
Several of the issues included:
- Provide clean-up procedures for employees to follow when responding to vomiting or diarrheal events in a food establishment.
- Store employee food and personal drinks in a designated area below and away from food, utensils, equipment, linens, and unwrapped single service/single use articles.
- Maintain TCS food at 135 F or above./ Pizza in the hot holding case measured 108F and was voluntarily discarded.
- Sanitize all utensils and food contact surfaces after cleaning and before use./ An approved food contact surface sanitizer, such as regular chlorine bleach, is not available in storage in the store nor in its retail stock.
- The air temerature guage on the pizza hot holding case is broken or inaccurate: the guage is reading 115F; the air temperature measured 129F with a maximum-registering thermometer.
- Provide chlorine solution at 50 to 200 ppm for storing cloths used to wipe counters and equipment./ Solution for between-use storage of wet wiping cloths at the self-service counter tested negative for chlorine.
- Provide water at a temperature of at least 100 F through a mixing valve or combination faucet at handwashing sinks./ There is no hot water supplied to the handsink in the mens restroom, and no water supplied to the handsink in the womens restroom.
- Keep the dumpster lid closed.
- Replace perforated ceiling tiles over the Crazy Italian Pizza preparation area at the service counter with smooth, easily cleanable tiles.
A manager from the Leeds Coosa Mart stressed that none of the penalties were food related or had anything to do with a lack of cleanliness.
She stated that the plumbing in the store has been fixed, and the thermostat knob on the pizza hot holder was broken, but the thermometer itself works. As for the cloths not containing chlorine solution, the store did not have chlorine at the time.
The store has been given 15 days to rectify the problems.
Below are the latest in health scores by the Jefferson County Department of Health. The department conducts regular health inspections of food service establishments. Please see the JCDH website.
