BIRMINGHAM — The Alabama Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Birmingham.
The Birmingham Police Department reported the shooting happened around 5:40 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2020.
An off-duty, uniformed officer was working security detail at the KFC, on Ensley Avenue, when the officer said a man entered the restaurant with a handgun. The officer confronted the man after he presented the gun at employees.
The officer discharged his weapon and the robbery suspect escaped by exiting through the drive-thru window, according to a press release. The suspect remains at large.
Birmingham Police believe the suspect was injured during the robbery. No employees were hurt. The officer involved was also uninjured.
