TRUSSVILLE — The Trussville City Schools Board of Education was honored on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2020, as part of School Board Appreciation Month.
Principals and students from all city schools participated in showing appreciation for the board. Trussville City Council liaison to the Board of Education Jef Freeman was the first to speak about the important role members play in the community. Freeman read a resolution passed by the Trussville City Council, recognizing the board for its efforts. Freeman then thanked the board.
“People are moving to the city of Trussville for our schools,” said Freeman. “They’re not moving here because I’m on the city council, although it took me a while to realize that. It’s because of what you do.”
Hewitt-Trussville High School Principal Mr. Tim Salem presented a video made by the school’s Media/Journalism class, explaining how important the Board of Education is. Mr. Salem also presented the board with cards and treats put together for each member of the board. The baskets were compliments of the Senior Board, the Student Council, the Culinary Department, the National Honors Society and the Media/Journalism class.
Hewitt-Trussville Middle School art students gave the board members “boat-themed- baskets to represent how well the board is “Charting the Course for Student Success.”
Cahaba Elementary Schools Ambassadors were on hand to read descriptions of constellations that matched up with how each board member represents the school system. The ambassadors then presented the members with goody baskets.
Magnolia Elementary students gave each member of the board a book titled “What Do You Do with a Chance?” As students gave the book to individual board members, they thanked them for giving them the chance to pursue their dreams.
The Paine Performers, from Paine Elementary School, sang for the BOE. The song was themed around “sailing and prevailing.”
All of the schools also made banners to hang at the Board of Education meeting.
