MOODY – Moody Parks and Recreation has canceled the 2020 spring sports recreational season due to safety and health concerns as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Parks and Recreation’s Director Mike Staggs announced that both baseball and softball will follow in the footsteps of soccer and be cancelled for the spring season. The Parks and Recreation annually hosts adult softball, baseball, soccer and softball during the spring season. The next season will come in the fall with the return of adult softball and soccer, along with the arrival of basketball, cheerleading, flag football and football.
“With the rules of social distancing and without a hard date to relax these rules, we feel this is the right time to make this move,” Staggs said. “The mayor, council and park staff shared in making this decision after considering a number of options.”
Based upon the current data available throughout the state of Alabama, the safety concerns outweighed the need to press forward with a spring recreational season. Participants will receive a full refund, Staggs said. The participant’s coaches will reach out to validate that the refund information is current.
“Please understand, we are extremely disappointed to lose our spring sports this year,” Staggs said. “However, we feel this is the best route to keep our players, coaches and fans healthy and safe. Keep an eye out for our fall registration dates. We miss you and look forward to seeing everyone in the fall.”
