BIRMINGHAM – Birmingham’s Automatic Seafood and Oysters was named as a finalist for the country’s best new restaurant by the James Beard Foundation.
The restaurant, which opened its doors in April 2019 behind the culinary masterminds of chef Adam Evans and designer Suzanne Humphries Evans, joins 10 other restaurants across the nation vying for the title of best new restaurant.
Automatic Seafood and Oysters joins Demi, Minneapolis; Eem, Portland, Oregon; Fox & the Knife, Boston; Gado Gado, Portland, Oregon; Gianna, New Orleans; Kalaya, Philadelphia; Nightshade, Los Angeles; Pasjoli, Santa Monica, California; and Verjus, San Francisco.
Per Automatic Seafood and Oysters’ website, the menu consists of a variety of seafood dishes, featuring fish primarily sourced from the Gulf of Mexico, oysters from waters along the Southern and Eastern coastlines, as well as a selection of land-based produce and proteins.
To be named as a finalist for the James Beard best new restaurant award, an establishment must demonstrate an excellence “in cuisine and hospitality, and that is likely to make a significant impact in years to come.”
The James Beard Foundation Restaurant & Chef Award winners are scheduled to be announced on Sept. 25, 2020, from Chicago.
