TRUSSVILLE — The Hewitt-Trussville High School football team has named the successor to former offensive coordinator Caleb Perry, who departed in February to become the head coach at Bauxite High School in Bauxite, Arkansas.
Leading the Huskies’ offense now will be Juan Johnson.
Johnson follows in the stead of Perry, who now helms a Bauxite team that finished this past season 6-5 and lost to Dardanelle, 51-20, in the opening round of the playoffs.
Johnson was previously the Huskies’ run game coordinator before head coach Josh Floyd handed him the reins of the offensive on Thursday. Johnson has been with Hewitt-Trussville for five seasons. He has coached for 14 seasons overall.
“I’m very grateful and excited for the opportunity to be the Offensive Coordinator at Hewitt-Trussville,” Johnson said in a statement. “Coach Floyd does a tremendous job with our football program. We have been one of the top offenses in the state over the past four years. We hope to continue that trend and continue to find ways to win games.”
Johnson’s pedigree runs deep within athletics. He played football and baseball at the University of the South and Tuskeegee University. He was named the Conor Elite 12 SIAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year as a senior at Tuskegee.
On the sidelines, Johnson has worked at Opp High School, T.R. Miller and Stanhope Elmore.
“I’m very excited to have Juan Johnson as our new offensive coordinator at Hewitt-Trussville,” Floyd said. “Coach Johnson has been our running game coordinator and coached running backs for the past four years. He has played a key role in producing one of the top offenses in 7A during this time. Coach Johnson has a great offensive mind and we are looking forward to him helping us win championships. We know he will continue to have a positive impact on our student athletes on and off the field.”
