TRUSSVILLE — An officer with the Trussville Police Department arrested a man on Thursday, May 14, after the officer smelled marijuana coming from a vehicle on Main Street.
Leonze Ozell Harris, 18, of Birmingham, is charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana second degree, and carrying a concealed weapon without a license.
Detective Ben Short said during a traffic stop in the 400 block of Main Street, THC oil and two stolen firearms were recovered from the vehicle Harris was driving. Trussville Police said Harris will not be charged for having the stolen firearms because one of them was reported stolen in 2014, out of Bessemer, and the other was reported stolen in 2017, out of Shelby County.
“We attempted to charge Harris with receiving stolen property, in reference to those firearms, but after consulting with the District Attorney’s Office, they declined to issue warrants due to the time in which they were stolen,” said Short.
Harris was placed in the Jefferson County Jail on bonds totaling $1,600.
