MOODY — In a game delayed one hour by lightning on Friday night, the Moody Blue Devils came away on the wrong side of a 27-7 score at the hands of Elmore County.
Friday night’s result represents Moody’s third straight season opening loss. The Blue Devils (0-1) will attempt to get back on track next week when John Carroll comes to town.
On Friday, Moody struggled to stop Elmore County quarterback Payton Stephenson, who according to the Wetumpka Herald, ran for two touchdowns and threw for another on the road. The sophomore put up 160 yards of offense for the Panthers.
First-year Moody quarterback A.J. Wallace showed promise with 235 yards passing. The unit did, however, struggle in the red zone. According to the Herald, Moody suffered three turnovers thanks to a pair of interceptions and a lost fumble.
For Elmore County, Sean Darnell ran for 101 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries.
