CENTER POINT — There will be two runoff elections in the city of Center Point on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2020. The mayor’s race and city council place 3 race were both too close to call during the municipal elections on Aug. 25.
Mayor Tom Henderson will run against current city council member Bobby Scott for the top seat in the city. On Tuesday, voters gave Henderson 341 votes and Scott finished in a close second with 324 votes. There were two other candidates, Frederick Burkes picked up 300 votes and James Hurt finished with 14 votes.
For place 3 on the city council, Tiffany Collins Moore will runoff with incumbent Roger Barlow. Moore had 442 votes while Barlow had 309. Matthew Ray had 164 and Michael Marbury had 43.
For place 1, which was left vacant when Bobby Scott announced his run for mayor, D.M. Collins won in a landslide to Melissa Howle. The vote was 709 to 228.
Glenn Williams took place 2 from Linda Kennemur in a close race, 497 to 453.
Another incumbent, James Howell, lost to opponent Sharon Jones in a 512 to 418 loss.
