Robert Joseph Holmes “Bobby”, age 78 of Alpine, AL passed away peacefully on Aug. 23, 2020.
He was born on Nov. 4, 1941 in Birmingham, AL to Raymond and Clara Holmes. He graduated from West End High School in 1960. He received a BA of Industrial Management from Auburn University in 1965.
He began working at Rust Engineering in 1966 and retired in 1999 from Raytheon after 33 years. He proudly served in the U.S. Army Reserves of 167th Infantry from 1965-1971.
Bobby loved nothing more than playing old music, restoring his 1968 BSA and antique cars, building our retirement home on Logan Martin Lake and then restored several Honda dirt bikes. There wasn’t anything that he couldn’t accomplish.
He enjoyed life to the fullest, trusting in the Lord for all that he did.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Betty, who loved, cared and adored him; his loving daughter, Angela (Brian) McKee; grandchildren, Amber (Stevie) Jones, Matthew McKee, Lauren McKee Weston; sisters, Carolyn Miller, Martha (Jimmy) Montgomery; 4 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and special friends. He also leaves behind his faithful companion, Smokey Bob.
Even in his last year here with us, he faced an uphill health battle with the utmost courage and determination. He is now living his eternal life with the good Lord.
Visitation was held on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2020 at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, family ask that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
Special thanks to Dr. Shaily Lakhanpal and to the Compassus Team of Care.
