BIRMINGHAM — The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) is investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened on Friday, Sept. 18, 2020.
A Birmingham Police officer was attempting a traffic stop on a vehicle reported stolen, around 2 p.m. According to police, the driver of the vehicle refused to stop and wrecked in the 6500 block of Avenue N. After wrecking, police said the driver bailed from the vehicle and presented a firearm. That’s when the officer fired his weapon, wounding the suspect.
“Officers immediately rendered aid by applying a tourniquet prior to the arrival of Birmingham Fire and Rescue,” Sgt. Rodarius Mauldin said in a statement.
The unidentified man was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The man’s weapon was recovered from the scene.
The officer was not hurt.
