MCCALLA — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of two people in west Jefferson County after deputies witnessed what appeared to be a drug deal.
Timothy Tyrone Powell and Darnell Bernard Bostic, Jr. were arrested on Thursday, Feb. 18, 2021.
Sgt. Joni Money said deputies with the Sheriff’s Neighborhood Enforcement Team spotted a possible narcotics transaction taking place around 3 p.m. The deputies attempted to block in two vehicles but one of the drivers intentionally struck one of the deputy’s patrol units, according to Money.
“Both suspect vehicles then fled the scene,” Money said. “After a short chase, deputies were able to take two subjects into custody, one who stopped in the Bessemer area and the second near McAshan Drive in McCalla.”
Powell was charged with criminal mischief first-degree, attempting to elude law enforcement officials and reckless endangerment. He was placed in the Jefferson County Jail on bonds totaling $22,000.
Bostic, who Money said was in possession of cocaine and a stolen firearm, was charged with receiving stolen property 1st and unlawful possession of a controlled substance. His bonds total $3,500.
No injuries were reported during the incident.
