BIRMINGHAM — Alabama State Troopers are investigating a wreck that took the life of a 68-year-old New Jersey man on Wednesday night.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has identified the decedent as Carl L. Browning, who police say was the driver and lone occupant of a vehicle traveling east on Interstate 22 when he was involved in a single-vehicle wreck.
According to Alabama State Troopers, the sequence of events is unclear at this time, but it is believed that following his initial wreck, the decedent exited his vehicle and was struck by two additional motor vehicles. Browning was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities say the accident took place at approximately 10:15 p.m. on Interstate 22 east in Birmingham.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is investigating the cause and circumstances surrounding the wreck.
