CHELSEA — Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division are investigating a deadly crash that happened on U.S. 280 on Monday, June 28, 2021.
Christopher Rutledge, 21, of Birmingham, was taken to Grandview Medical Center from the scene of the crash. ALEA said Rutledge was not wearing a seat belt when the 2003 Toyota Tundra he was driving left the roadway and struck an embankment.
The crash happened around 4:30 a.m. and approximately two miles northeast of Chelsea.
Rutledge was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
