BESSEMER — The Jefferson County Coroner/Medical Examiner’s Office identified a prison inmate who died after a fall.

Johnnie Lee James, 61, sustained a head injury when he fell on the floor of a day space area at William Donaldson Correctional Facility, according to Coroner Bill Yates.
James was serving a life sentence in connection to a 2002 murder in Russell County.
The Alabama Department of Corrections – Intelligence and Investigations is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
