BIRMINGHAM — The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office reported that a construction worker was killed Thursday evening when he was hit by a vehicle in a closed lane of Interstate I-59/20.
The vehicle also hit a piece of repaving equipment before it left the scene.
State troopers and the Bessemer police later found the driver and vehicle at the driver’s residence.
The driver of the jeep has been identified. Charles Brian Hogg, 48, of McCalla, was transported to the Jefferson County Jail, where he was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and Reckless Murder.
No further details have been released at this time.
