Sarah Kate Potter and Ariana Gilles recently competed in the Distinguished Young Women of St. Clair County Scholarship Program in Springville.
Cash scholarships totaling $7,350 and various college-granted scholarships were awarded to six St. Clair County seniors enrolled in various school systems, including Gilles and Potter. Participants were evaluated in interview, scholastics, talent, fitness, and self-expression/public speaking, plus the Be Your Best Self Essay Award (part of the nat’l Distinguished Young Women program).
Potter earned $1,650 in Scholastics, the ‘Be Your Best Self’ Essay Award and was named runner-up. Ariana Gilles earned $600 in Talent and Fitness. Program chairman Kathy Ronderos stated, “This marks the first time ever that Hewitt-Trussville High School senior girls living in St. Clair County have participated, and both did extremely well and were stellar representatives of Trussville.”
