BIRMINGHAM — A Jefferson County grand jury indicted two people on charges related to a March 4, 2021 homicide.
Jatavius Jamar Foster, 32, and Iesa Collins, 36, were indicted on charges of corpse abuse and arson, while Collins was also indicted for murder.
The pair are accused of killing 39-year-old Terrence Jerome Hardy and then trying to burn his body to cover up the crime. Hardy was found dead in his apartment at Wood Station Place on March 4.
The indictments were made on Friday, September 24, and made public on Thursday, September 30.
Foster was arrested later in March and remains in the Jefferson County Jail on a $75,000 bond. Collins remains behind bars on bonds totaling $175,000.
Birmingham police officers and Birmingham Fire and Rescue workers responded shortly after 9:30 p.m. on the night of the murder to a report of an apartment fire on the 100 block of the apartment complex, where Hardy lived. Once the blaze was extinguished, firefighters found Hardy unresponsive inside the apartment.
Investigators say he was shot before he was set on fire.
No trial date has been set, and no motive has been given for the murder.
