CLAY — Senior quarterback Khalib Johnson threw for three touchdowns and Rodreckus Johnson ran for two as Clay-Chalkville pounded Huffman 54-0 here on Friday, October 22, 2021.
The Cougars (9-0, 6-0) are ranked No. 1 in Class 6A, and they showed why against an overmatched Huffman squad. Johnson, a Louisville commit, got the scoring started early hitting Marquarious White for a 68-yard touchdown on the first play of the game, but couldn’t connect on a two-point conversion.
With 9:47 left in the first quarter, Rodreckus Johnson ran in from 31 yards out, and Ed Osley converted on a two-point try to make the score 14-0.
Khalib Johnson then found Osley on a 22-yard touchdown pass — his second of the night — and then Cam’ron Williams ran in the two-point conversion with 4:48 left in the first to make it 22-0.
Rodreckus Johnson found the end zone for his second score at with 7:28 left in the second quarter. Khalib Johnson then hit Nate Owens on the two-point conversion to make it 30-0.
Jaylen Mbakwe caught Khalib Johnson’s next touchdown pass, this one a 35-yarder, and then White caught the two-point conversion to make it 38-0 for the Cougars with 6:18 left in the half.
With the game well in hand, the Cougars got a defensive score when Deon Gunn got a pick-six with 7:56 left in the third quarter. Khalib Johnson then hit Jaydon Stone for a two-point conversion, and Clay-Chalkville led 46-0.
Marlon Compton capped the scoring for the night with a seven-yard touchdown and a two-point conversion with 10:03 left in the game to make the final score 54-0.
Khalib Johnson finished 10-of-14 for 183 yards and three scores and no interceptions. Allan Cotton led the russing attack with five attempts for 61 yards, while Cam’ron Williams carried the rock four times for 35 yards. Rodreckus Johnson only carried the ball twice, but gained 33 yards and two touchdowns.
Mbakwe led the way receiving, with four catches for 68 yards and a score, while White caught one ball for 68 yards and a score, and Osley also made the most of his lone catch, scoring a touchdown.
As usual, it never took the Cougars long to score. Clay-Chalkville only had the ball for 14:16 of the game, but they ran 33 plays for 357 yards, while holding Huffman to 119 total yards and causing two turnovers.
The Cougars cap their season next week when they travel to Oak Mountain to face the Eagles.
